Employment Program for the Extremely Poor (EGPP)
Objectives of the program
Short term employment during off season
Protection of working poor families through short-term employment


Who is the project for?
This project is mainly for the very poor and seasonal unemployed laborer families of the area



Who can be the beneficiary of this program?


* Persons belonging to poor population who are able to work and are landless (less than 0.5 acres of land without house).

* The person whose monthly income is less than 4,000/- (four thousand) rupees or who does not have a pond for fish farming or any livestock.


* Unskilled workers who are willing to work but cannot find any work. Unskilled workers are those who are day labourers, masons, carpenters, electricians, gas fitters and factory workers or who have no other job opportunities. Only 01 person from a family irrespective of male and female will be selected for this job.

How is the project accepted?
1. According to the demand, the initial selection of social projects should be completed at the ward level by involving the local people and beneficiaries.

2. A meeting has to be convened to approve the ward-wise plan of the union. A wide-based campaign should be carried out in order to attract all levels of people, including women, to the meeting

3. The priority list of ward wise projects should be submitted to the union committee along with the minutes of the meeting.
4. The list of selected projects should be posted on the notice board of the Union Parishad.


Working pattern of EGPP
1. Excavation/re-excavation of ponds, canals.

2. Construction/Reconstruction of Dams (Recommended by Water Development Board)

3. Reconstruction of road/dam construction

4. Development of rural infrastructure (roads, bridges)

5. Excavation/re-excavation of canals/channels for irrigation and drainage.



What benefits are available from the project?
1. 200/- per working day (40 days per phase/02 phases per year). 25/- will be deposited as savings.

2. Supply of job card, opening of a bank account for Rs.10/-, withdrawal of wages every Thursday.

3. Men/women are entitled to equal wages.

4. The wage rate has to be displayed in the workplace.

5. The job card should contain all the wage payment information.
